7 Ways to Strengthen Your Innate Intuition

We are blessed with guidance and it is within our power to find ways to both express and listen to this wisdom. The choice is ours. — Susan Barbara Apollon

If we are brave enough to let go of our plans and surrender to life, we allow the deepest part of our being to lead the way through a very powerful internal compass, our intuition 🙂 Have you ever experienced it? An image or a thought that suddenly comes to you, without any analysis or rationalization. A simple knowing.

Intuition is innate in each of us but very often we stop listening to it at a young age, relying much more on the external world and its limiting beliefs. As a consequence our intuition becomes weaker and weaker and we forget how to use it.

Why is it so important for us to follow our intuition? Every time we do not trust it, we disconnect a little bit more from the deepest source within. As the time goes by, we keep adding layer upon layer and distance ourselves more and more from our heart.

Every time you don’t follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness. — Shakti Gawain

To live an authentic life, filled with joy and peace, it is vital to get back in touch with our intuition.

Even though it might have become weak, fortunately we cannot completely lose our intuition and it is never too late to get back in touch with it 🙂

How can we reconnect with our internal GPS? Read on to learn some strategies that you can integrate into your daily routine 🙂

Acknowledge Your Intuition

To reconnect with it, first of all you must acknowledge its existence 🙂 Be aware that you are fundamentally a spiritual being who is having a human experience and that you are not limited to your five-sensory experience. If you still struggle with accepting completely this idea, at least be open to the possibility 😉

Trust Your Intuition

Start listening to your gut feelings when they whisper to you and learn to trust them. Do not question or rationalize them. The more you recognize and validate them, the stronger they will get 🙂

Be Present in the Moment

When you constantly think about the future or the past you are lost in your thoughts. A good analogy is a pond with muddy water. The more you stir it, the less you can see. Your mind is the same: The more active it is, the more noise is in there. In this state it is very difficult to listen to your intuition when it whispers. To allow this voice to get to your consciousness, your mind needs to be calm enough. How can you reduce its activity? By living it alone with itself. Whatever you are doing, train yourself to be fully there as the observer of your thoughts or sensations, in other words be mindful of what is. If you are new to mindfulness you can find more details in Mindfulness Meditation: Why You Should Seriously Consider Giving It a Try 🙂
The voice of your intuition will be able to reach you once you become more aware of  the limiting beliefs through which you unconsciously interpreted the world, like I am not good enough, They do not love me, I am not worthy of love, and so on 🙂

Spend Time Alone

Since the conditioning comes from the external world, it is fundamental to dedicate some time every day to distance yourself from all the noise and reconnect to yourself in quietness. Find what works better for you. Some examples are meditation, walking in nature or even having a bath. In How to Establish a Daily Practice and Change Your Life for the Better you can find more suggestions to create this safe space in your life.

Do Things that Increase Your Energy

According to Anita Moorjani, a well-known speaker and best-selling author, when our energy level is high, we are more connected within and so our intuition gets stronger. This is why it is fundamental to constantly monitor our energy levels. Ask yourself often How am I feeling right now? Notice what activities and people contribute to keep your energy high. Then set apart time and actively do them every day. For example spend time in nature, play with your pets, laugh with friends, meditate, whatever works for you 🙂 Moreover try to limit what feels draining.

Visualize

Use often visualization techniques to allow the unconscious to express itself. In How to Allow the Creative Power of Imagination to Emerge you can find more about the power of imagination 🙂

Pray

Prayer is very important in establishing a connection with your Higher Self, because it creates an ongoing dialogue. Be aware that this has nothing to do with asking for what you think you want. On the contrary prayer is based upon gratitude and surrender. Be grateful for what you already have and ask for guidance in serving the Higher Power 🙂

Do not assume that divine guidance flows only when you are in need of help. Guidance continues to flow whether or not you have problems. It transcends problems, heartbreaks, and traumas, flowing through dreams and illuminations. Whether guidance comes during times of tranquility or trauma, however, it is up to you to have the courage to acknowledge it. — Caroline Myss

Are you willing to apply some of these strategies to strengthen your intuition? 😉

You might be wondering How can I distinguish whether a thought comes from inner guidance or rational thinking? The general rule is the following: If there is a sense of safety and peace related to it, then its source is deep within. If there is any feeling of anxiety, anger or fear, then the source is the ego, namely the conditioned mind, sum of all the beliefs learned from the external world.

When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy. — Rumi

  1. Giulia, I especially appreciated your encouraging readers to ‘limit what we find draining.’ It may not seem so, but so it is that energy can be exhausted in a myriad of ways. I believe [in a big way], constant face-offs with “drama” can and does ⚡️ needed energy for living one’s highest and best life. Time to replenish must therefore be a daily priority.

    Excellent tips. Thanks for sharing!🥳

  2. This was very informative. I’ve always thought that one’s intuition as synonymous to one’s gut feeling. Good thing I’m not too far off.

Spending time alone is something I enjoy every much. You’re right. It allows us to reconnect with ourselves after being carried away to the realities of life.

    I enjoyed reading this one.😊
