Love or Fear: Which One Do You Choose to Live By?

If you knew the secret of life, you too would choose no other companion but love. — Rumi

There are two essential forces operating in this world: Love and Fear. Whether you are conscious of it or not, every moment of your life you are asked to choose between one of them. Sometimes it might not appear so obvious to you which one you are embodying, as Love and Fear take different forms. Some examples of Love are expansion, wholeness, openness, acceptance, detachment, possibility and abundance. On the contrary, Fear might manifest itself as contraction, separation, closure, resistance, attachment, limitation and scarcity.

Whatever you know or don’t,
Only Love is real. — Rumi

Our natural state is Love, so why do we often experience Fear? What is it?

Fear is the absence of Love and it occurs when we close our hearts to it. It is a direct consequence of our beliefs about the world, what we think should or should not be happening. Every time we internally resist reality, we block Love, not allowing it to flow through us.

Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn. The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and prejudices and the acceptance of love back in our hearts. Love is the essential reality and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us. — Marianne Williamson

How can we transcend Fear?
If we resist it, we end up reinforcing it. The only way to go beyond Fear is to respond with Love to it. This might be very challenging sometimes. For example if we see an injustice that makes us angry, it is very tempting to react out of rage to it. But no matter what action we decide to take, reaction would only add more Fear to the situation. A better approach consists in accepting what we are feeling but do not allow it to dictate our choices. If we respond to a certain situation from a place of internal acceptance of the present moment, our actions are going to be much more powerful, because rooted in Love.

You cannot transcend fear by trying to get rid of it. You can only transcend fear by focusing on love. — Anita Moorjani

You might be wondering now Why is choosing Love so important? How is it going to affect my life?
Every single choice we make determines the type of energy we bring into our life and in the lives of people around us.
In other words, when our driving force is Fear, this is what we are going to get more of. In fact, we are always hold responsible for the quality of energy we bring into the world. This is a very important topic, discussed in detail in The Power of Intention 🙂

With life as short as a half taken breath, don’t plant anything but love. ― Rumi

  1. At the moment I still love somebody but have to create space between us as the respect is not being returned. I don’t hate, I still love but not their behaviour. Does that make sense.
