The Power of Intention

A gift consists not in what is done or given,
but in the intention of the giver or doer. — Seneca

We tend to believe that if we act good, good will come to us. Unfortunately this is not completely true. What is really important is our intention, namely the motivation behind every thought, word or action.

Why am I doing this? What is really driving me? Is it Love or Fear?

Sometimes it is not so obvious to reply to these questions. For example, let’s consider a person that has the tendency to please others. In other words, they try as much as possible to satisfy someone else’s needs to be accepted by them and gain their approval. Now, let’s assume that one of their friends asks them do something that they really do not want to do, but they accept because it is very difficult for them to say no. In this situation, even if this person is doing something good, like helping a friend, their real intention is rooted in Fear. In fact, they unconsciously believe that if they would say no they would be rejected by their friend

Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? Were your actions apparently good, but rooted in Fear?

You might be wondering Why is acting good not enough?

Intention is a very powerful force. Whether we are conscious of our choices or not, we are always going to get back the energy that we put out into the world. This is how Gary Zukav, author of The Seat of The Soul, beautifully frames this concept.

Every action, thought, and feeling is motivated by an intention, and that intention is a cause that exists as one with an effect. If we participate in the cause, it is not possible for us not to participate in the effect. In this most profound way we are held responsible for our every action, thought, and feeling, which is to say, for our every intention. — Gary Zukav

In this short video Oprah Winfrey and Gary Zukav discuss about the power of intention, and how it changed their lives 🙂

I believe that every single event in life happens in an opportunity to choose love over fear. — Oprah Winfrey

Are your thoughts, words and actions inspired by Love or Fear?
Always remember to check your intention 😉

Intention is the core of all conscious life.
Conscious intention colors and moves everything.
